About Us

Earlier known as Yesu Nivas is situated near Kalikavu in Malappuram district. It was started as an experimental house by Brs. Sales Manakkatt and Manuel Munduvelil in the year 1973, with the permission of the then Provincial Br. Hyppolytus Kunnunkal. It was known as Sneha Sadan until 1982. The plot of land was donated by Mr. Abraham Pallivathukal.

At the extra-ordinary Chapter of 1982, it was decided to give back the property to the donor if he would accept it, as we had no plan of permanently establishing a house at Arimanal. The donor was not willing to take back the property. Hence it remained closed for about three years. After the Chapter of 1984, Br. M. Devanand, wanting to open a house of prayer, in Consultation with the Councill, chose Sneha Sadan and gave it a new name Yesu Nivas. The Chapter of 1987 raised it as a house of recollection and contemplation for St. Joseph Province. Br. M. Devanand came away from Yesu Nivas in May 2005. Since no friar has been residing there the house remained closed for some time and its care was entrusted to the members of Assisi Ashram, Vadapuram. Again in the month of August 2008, Br. Thomas Thumpeparambil expressed his desire to stay there with the hope of putting up an Oriental Spirituality Centre which will help to reinforce our identity as Syro- Malabar Capuchins. The construction of a new Ashram named Sneha Sdadan, was begun early in the year 2014 and blessed on September 29th 2014.
